FALCON ISLAND.
TONGAN FLAG HOISTED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 1.1. The Premier of Tonga and party, accompanied by Doctor Ladd, an eminent geologist from one of the American Universities, visited Falcon Island and the Premier hoisted the Tongan flag. . , , . Dr. Ladd states that tho island is just a mound of ashes with deposits of sulphur in the crater. There were no sings of recent fire or lava. The island was washing away rapidly through the action of the sea, although the latter was now in process of receding. Ho believes that there is every possibility that lie'island may •again assert itself in’ the fulness of its greatest size.
