SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board was held this morning when there were present Messrs 1 . J. Small (m tho chair), M. A. Eliott, D. Collies, R- Tanner, E. W. I. C-ollms and E. Wood. . • , The following resolution was earned unanimously: — . , •‘That an application be made to the Local Government Loans Board ror its sanction to the borrowing of £2,000 at a rate of interest not exceeding 6 per cent with a sinking fund of 3 per cent for a term of -0 years for tho purpose of finding work.tor the unemployed and to widen, deepen, straighten, divert and put. in floodgates and do such acts as may be necessary for improving the Hangaone Stream, the joint outlet, Whiskey creek, Burke’s Drain, Boundary dram and the Main drain.” It was pointed out that the loan would enable the board to fmd work for the 30 married men already employed as well as for a section of the unemployed. “I feel confident, said tho chairman, “that the loan will be passed.
