COAL INDUSTRY
POSITION IN N.S.W. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). Received May 9, 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, May 9. Mrs E. A. Buttenshaw, Secretary for Public Works, stated to-day that the comments made on the coal position in New South Wales by Air John Brown, the well-known coal owner, did not represent the Government’s views..The Government realised that Australia had lost her export coal trade, and some time ago had called a conference of owners and miners’ representatives in order to try and find solution of the stagnation. The report of tho conference was not yet to hand. UNITED FRONT. Received May 9, 10.45 a.m. SYDNEY, May 9. A conference of representatives of all unions on the coalfields adopted a resolution pledging themselves to present a united front against any attempt to reduce wages.
