WAIKATO DIOCESE

APPEAL TO CHURCH PEOPLE. CESSATION OF DISSENSION DESIRED. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, May 8Two further moves in connection with tho dissension in the Waikato Diocese are reported. The first is the resignation of Canon F. G. Harvie from the positions of diocesan secretary and diocesan chaplain. Rev. Mr Harvie was recently suspended from the canonry by Bishop Cherrington, but was reinstated by order of the General Synod. To-day the standing committee of tho Waikato Diocese passed tho follmying resolution: —“That Canon Harvie’s resignation he accepted, that ho be paid three months’ salary in lieu of notice, and that tho standing committee place on record its appreciation of his work in iho diocese.”

The standing committee also resolved:—“The standing, committee of tho Dioceso of Waikato, after long and careful consideration of the state of unrest in the diocese, is unanimously of opinion that no question has arisen which cannot be satisfactorily solved by wholehearted concentration upon the work. of the Church and calls upon Church people to rally and to work together for the progress of the Kingdom of God in the diocese under their bishop, whom they deliberately chose as their leader, and to abstain from airing grievances, real or otherwise, in tho public press, a practice which only brings the Church into contempt and proportionately hinders her work. A former Bishop" of Auckland was wont to say ‘Work unites, talk divides.’ ”
