KING’S RELIGION.
STATEMENT BY CARDINAL.
(Australian Press Association). V LONDON, May 7. Cardinal Bourne, preaching at Cambridge, stated that it was conceivable that the day would come when the. English Sovereign would feel unable longer to declare himself a faithful Protestant. Cardinal Bourne added: \\hat «; U happen? I suppose that means will legally be taken to declare that the bond of allegiance has ceased. Many Englishmen then will say : Why should, the King of England alone among men be deprived of that liberty of conscience to which Protestants attach so much importance? It may be that ne has legally lost his claim to our allegiance, but this we will voluntarily renew, whatever he the religion he professes.’ ”
