BORSTAL ESCAPEES.
THREE BEFORE THE COURT. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Alay 7. Three escapees from the Borstal Institution—Herbert Harris Keith Alaxfield, Charles Alitcliell Newman, and Thomas George Flanagan—appeared in tho Alagistrate’s Court to-day to face charges or having escaped from custody and other charges arising out of their unlawful acts during the time they were at liberty.
Newman was charged oil three counts of breaking, entering and theft, and converting a horse to his own use. Alaxfield’s list was four charges of - breaking, entering and theft, three of converting cars to his own use, two of presenting loaded firearms, one of theft, and one of discharging a firearm with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Flanagan had four charges preferred against him—namely, escaping from custody, two charges of breaking, entering and theft, and one of theft. Newman pleaded guilty to all tho indictable charges and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Alaxfield pleaded guilty to all the indictable charges save that of discharging a firearm with intent to do grievous bodily harm. After hearing evidence the Alagistrate said lie would give Maxfield the benefit of the doubt and,dismiss the charge. Flanagan pleaded guilty and was committted for sentence.
