WINDFALL FOR COUNCIL.
OLD GOLDFIELDS ACCOUNT
P AERO A. Alay 7
The Ohinemuri County Council, at its monthly meeting, received a letter from the Treasury advising that £1037 7s 2d had been placed to the credit of the council. . “The Auckland .district goldfields suspense account,” wrote tlie Re-ceiver-General, “to which all goldfields revenue collected in the Auckland Provincial district since the early days has been credited and then disbursed to the local authorities and natives, had recently been closed. The balance remaining in the account disclosed that various accounts remained undistributed and a search of old records has revelaed that, owing to the insufficiency of details concerning certain amounts credited to the account in past years, sucli amounts were not definitely allocated to tlie local authorities concerned. The investigation showed that £lO3l 7s 2d is the portion due to the Ohinemuri County. Council.” . , The letter was received on a unanimous vote.
