BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OF COUNCIL. REPORTS AND COR RESPONDKNCJE. The regular meeting of the Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor (Mr A. J. Graham) presiding. Also present were Crx. Eliott, P'ttzhorbert, Canton, Hoilgens, Clausen. Tremaine, Milverton, Munsfurd and Low.
Regarding a request from the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid. Society for a donation to its funds, it was decided to make a grant of £3 3s similarly to last year.
The abattoir manager (Mr A. AI. Spilman) reported that, during April, the following stock had been slaughtered : Cows 327, heifers 57, bullocks 81, calves 52. sheep 1(56(5. lambs 336. pigs 1590. Fees received had totalled £325 12s -Id. Sixteen cows had been condemned, with 25 pigs, four sheep and two lamb.;.
The pdundkeoper (Mr G. P. Jarrett) reported that 19 head of stock had been impounded during April, fees received amounting to £1 11s. WORKS GOAIAIITT.EK. The works committee recommended : That Airs Melville's request that the unformed road between Ruahi.no and Fitzroy Streets bo formed and metalled he held over pending receipt- of the engineer's report. That the dustmen's application for an increase in wages and their request to he allowed to work on all holidays except Christmas Day be referred to the engineer to report thereon. That the memorandum of transfer of part section 103, King Street, borough to Plunket Society, and approved of by the borough solicitor, bo consented to, and that the finance committee be authorised to affix the seal and signature. That the engineer request a local firm to remove forthwith the advertising signs erected on telegraph poles throughout the borough. That a tender .of £B9 15s bo accepted for the erection of conveniences in Cuba Street. —Adopted.
