MOTOR REGULATIONS.
POWER TAKEN FROM LOCAL BODIES.
At to-day’s meeting of the Kairanga County Council a circular letter was received from the Waipa County Council enclosing a resolution passed by that body, pointing out that the new motor regulations took from the local bodies any power to regulate the speed of motor vehicles. Tho regulations, it was asserted, were not in the best interests of tho roads nor of the public. Support of the resolution, copies of which were to bo sent to members of Parliament, was requested. The chairman (Cr. Jos. Batchelar): It is a big question. The engineer pointed out that the local bodies could now only make local restrictions with the consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs. “There will soon not be any local bodies,” said tlio chairman. Cr. Anderson said that tho Government was taxing tho motorist right and left and was now studying his interests.
It was Cr. Small's opinion that the matter should be threshed out at the Counties’ Conference and it was decided to write to tho Waipa County Council recommending this course.
