GREAT PEASANTS’ MEETING. BOLSHEVIST IN CHARACTERCAROL HINTS AT DEVELOPMENTS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received AJav 7, 9.30 a.m. BUCHAREST, May G. A great congress ol tho National Peasant Party is opening ait Alba Julia to-day. Tho leader, Al. Alaniu, has exhorted his followers to maintain order, but feeling runs high. Sixteen military aeroplanes dropped leaflets warning the peasants against attending the congress, which is described as Bolshevist in character.
The party, on the other hand, declares that the solo object of the meeting is to secure immediate elections throughout the country, which the Government has refused. AL Alaniu denies that a conspiracy exists to restore the ex-Crown Prince Carol. Al. Alaniu is expected personally to deliver a strong resolution to the Regency. Carol is most accessible to interviewers and persistently hints that developments are imminent. He states that Madame Lupescu does not desire to stand in his way to tho throne. The Government has topped the issue of railway tickets to Alba Julia. The roads are blocked by columns of marching peasants. It is reported that the congress will remain in session and await the Regency’s reply. lAIPORTANT AIOVE. PREAIIER’S RESIGNATION DEMANDED. CAROL MAY BE RECALLED. (United Service.) Received Alay 7, 11.15 a.m. LONDON, May 6. The Daily News’s Vienna correspondent states that'the 150.000 delegates assembled at Alba Julia have revolted, demanding tho resignation of the Premier, Al. Bratianu. Af. Alaniu has departed to present the resolution to the Regency personally. Tho Peasant Congress will remain in session until a reply has been received. Tho movement is regarded as one of the most momentous in the Near East since tho war. If it succeeds Caro] will be recalled.
Prince Carol of Roumania renounced Ins right of succession to tho throne'of that country in July, 1919, but reconsidered las decision. Finally, he again renounced his rights on December 31, 1925. _ The late King Ferdinand, in a communique, stated that Prince Carol, having informed His Majesty by’ letter of his irrevocable _ renunciation of succession and ail prerogatives appertaining to that rank, including membership of tho Royal Family, he was eompelcd to accept the renunciation. Tho King proclaimed his grandson, Alichael, son of Prince Carol, then four years old, as heir to the throne. The Council of State approved of this step, and Parliament subsequently ratified it. Alichael _ is now King, though during his minority a Regency rules the State.
