DOWN A BANK
FALL OF 300 FEET. CAR PASSENGERS INJURED. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, May 7. Dashed 300 feet down a precipitous bank in a closed car was the terrible experience last evening that befel Air and All's Edward Aleadowcroft. of Khandallah, Wellington, Airs Aleadowcroft being now apparently in a serious state, while her husband is suffering severely from shock. X car containing four Gisborne residents driven by Mr G. W. Armstrong, was traversing Wharerata Hill on the South Road when it encountered a man wandering along the road in a dazed condition who stated that ho had had an accident half a mile further Q.n. It was found that Air Aleadowcroft who was entirely unfamiliar with the road had failed to negotiate the turn and the car had crashed down an almost perpendicular elope. Mr Aleadowcroft, being unable to «nd any trace of his wife, had climbed back to the road to search for assist“rThe accident occurred about 5.30 o’clock in heavy ram. The rescuing oar tv scrambled down the bank, first encountering the bonnet oi the car, then the sidescreens and numerous items of luggage and fragments of the machine and finally, about lUU' yards down, the shattered remains or the car :t 'a'‘search revealed Airs Aleadowcroft king about fifty paces away m an unconscious condition, covered vn blood, and obviously, badly hurtwas coming down in sheets and the party were faced with a difficult problem' in transporting the injured lady up the 100 yards of cliff to the road. Finally after much toil, they accomplished the task and brought the injured people to the hospital. AIISHAP NEAR WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Alay 6. A motor-car proceeding to -IV anganui this morning plunged over V angaehu Hill and fell a hundred feet. . ” two occupants—a man named Air Symes and Aliss Pearson —were thrown clear, having a miraculous escape. Both are in. hospital suffering from shock and bruises. The car was wrecked.
