THE DRY SPELL.
AUCKLAND SUFFERING. DISTRICT’S MILK OUTPUT DECREASING. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard). AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. Auckland is still suffering from .the prolonged dry spell. In the city the gardens are parched, and as the use of hoses is prohibited in order to conserve the water supply all gardening operations are practically ,at a standstill.
Many grass and scrub fires are keeping the fire brigades busy. Reports from tho country districts indicate that the position in many quarters is serious and the milk outEut is steadily decreasing. This will ave a marked effect on the payouts to suppliers.
