PICTURESQUE REBEL.
YOUNG NICARAGUAN GENERAL,
“WILD BEAST ON MOUNTAINS.”
WASHINGTON, Jan. 12. A picturesque rebel general who calls himself tne “Wild Beast of the Mountains,” who rides a white mule and strikes his own coinage out of the gold from a captured mine, is said to be behind the present disturbance in Nicaragua. This is General Sandino, whose copper and gold seal of office, which lie designed himself, shows a rebel soldier beheading a United States marine. He is a picturesque character and is only 33 years old. General Sandino was formerly chief accountant for the American owners of the San Albino gold mine.
