Received January 20, 11.25 a.m. SHANGHAI, Jan. 19. Rivalry to control the Yangtze has resulted in an outbreak of hostilities between the forces of the Nanking Government under Chiang-kai-shek and the Independents under Beit-sung-chi, who was formerly Chiang’s Chief of Staff, and who was responsible for the capture of Shanghai.—A. and N.Z. cable.
