Gray, Fowler, Petrie, Oakley (skip); Haybittle, Hausmann, P. Miles, Chappell (skip). Members will find their travelling arrangements posted on the board at the respective greens. CHELTENHAM DAIRY COY. The directors’ report for the Cheltenham Dairy Company for the month of December is as under: —“The butter manufactured at the Makino factory last month was 2681 tons, the Government grading average Demg 83.89 points. The month’s output shows an increase of 491 tons on December, 192 G. For the six months ended December 31st the company manufactured 989 tons of butter against 819 tons for the similar period of last year, an increase of 170 tons. The rate of advance for December butterfat was fixed by the directors at Is 3d per lb., which is the same rate as advanced for December, 1926. The London market stands at about Inis Tier cwt. to-day which rate is equal to Is 3d per lb. f.o.b. New Zealand ports. According to the statisticial position in respect to imports and the weekly consumption in England, the markets should be about 20s per cwt better than present rates, but any advance in price is apparently influenced by the “invisible” stocks in the hands of the large multiple shops which, it is reported, have purchased heavily at the lower rate. “Dairy farmers and producers of pork and bacon are naturally awaiting with interest an announcement by the Government in regard to tlie allocation of the subsidy of £30,000. Although nothing definite has so far been announced, we are informed that there is every indication , of the Government subsidy being distributed in the following manner, viz.—(a) The subsidy will be paid on porkers only, i.e., up to 1101 b carcase; (b) both exportable and unexportable will benefit; (c) baconers will not benefit; (d) the subsidy will not apply to pig 6 killed prior to Ist February, 1928; (e) the subsidy will be paid direct to farmers at a flat rate per pig. As the foregoing is the probable course of events, it will mean a considerable change in practice if farmers are to benefit by the subsidy, porkers being already a better proposition than baconers, independent of getting the subsidy.

A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. Mr J. G. Eliott, M-P., presided over a meeting of the general committee of the Feilding A. and P. Association last night. Mr Perry, of Masterton, wrote agreeing to give a demonstration on Romney sheep.—Received with thanks. In a discussion on the pig pavilion, Mr Boddy desired to acknowledge the valuable services rendered ■ by Mr J. Bartholomew in the supervision of the erection of the building. On the motion of Mr Boddy, a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Bartholomew. It was decided to paint the pavilion where advisable. Mr Boddy also reported that arrangements had been made for the washing down of pigs entered in the show. VISITORS TO THE SHOW. The Prime Minister, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Lands, each replied to the association’s invitation to attend the show saying they would do so if possible. The president stated that he would keep in'touch with the Ministers about the visit and he hoped the Government would be represented. SOUTHDOWN CHAMPIONSHIP. On the motion of Messrs Short and ' Burrell it was decided to award a championship certificate for Southdowns in natural condition. After some discussion on the question it was resolved to award the medal donated by the Southdown Sheepbreeders’ Association .to the open and natural condition classes, the judges to be informed' of. this decision. It was decided that the judging for the medal be done by the officials of the open and natural condition classes in conjunction. BOROUGH RATES. On enquiring of the town clerk (Mr N. C. Harding) this morning as to liow the borough rates were coming in, the reply was “very satisfactory.’’ About £6OOO is still unpaid, but Mr Harding anticipates that within about £2OO of this sum will be forthcoming before the 10 per cent, penalty is applied during next week. Mr Harding considered that the local ratepayers had been very loyal and in view of the hard times that were ruling before Christmas he thought that the payments of rates had been exceptionally good. The fact was emphasised that not one penny on previous years’ rates was owed the council, there being no arrears of any description and in this respect Mr Harding thought the position of the Feilding Borough Council was unique and was, perhaps, a record for New Zealand. It certainly was a record for the borough'of Feilding. CRICKET. Owing to the impossibility of getting a local team .together the representative match, Feilding' v. Marton, scheduled for Monday, has been put off. A team from Feilding journeyed to Flock House, Bulls, this afternoon to play a friendly game with the Hostel team.
