SALE OF STEAMERS.

COMMONWEALTH LINE,

ENQUIRIES FROM ENGLAND,

Received Nvember 29, 1.5 p.m. CANBERRA, Nov. 29. In reply to a question in the House of Representatives, Mn Bruce stated that a cabled message had been received from Lord Inchcape to the effect that the latter would be prepared to dispose of the Commonwealth Line of steamers for the Government if it so desired. Lord Kylsant had also inquired whether in the event of an offering being made for the Line the Commonwealth would be prepared to indemnify the purchaser against industrial trouble in Australia.

The reply in each case was that the Line would be offered by public tender and the Government could not consider any other offer.—Press Association. '
