BOY SCOUTS.

The annual meeting of the council of the Boy Scouts’. Association, which was held in Christchurch last week, serves to focus attention on-the excellent service being rendered to the community by the public spirited ladies and gentlemen who either control or assist in the progress of the movement. Trained on lines which cannot by any stretch of the imagination be termed militaristic, as is so often alleged,'the Boy Scout is taught the great virtue of being self-reliant and to act

promptly and. coolly in moments of danger, as well as to be upright and honourable,, and to be loyal to his King and country. The growth of the movement in the Dominion is substantial, and the annual report submitted to the meeting last week records a large increase in the membership of the Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs, while *the Sea Scouts, Rovers, Scout Officers, Boy Scout Troops and Wolf Cub Packs have also been considerably strengthened in point of numbers. In .Palmerston North the organisation continues to be a live force in moulding the boys of the town and district on sensible lines, and quite recently the .Te Awe Awe Cubs achieved the high honour of winning a competition open to such troops throughout the Dominion. The Boy Scout movement is certainly worthy of tlie support of every section of the community, for examples of uts great usefulness are repeatedly occurring.
