METALLING WAIOURU A ROAD.

PROSPECTS OF EARLY START. TAIHAPE MOTORISTS JUBILANT. TAIHAPE, Nov. 26. Matters m connection with c'ompleting tho metalling of Waiouru Road, which is a main highway, have advanced anotlior stage, as the aimarine County Council has agreed to vote £l5O for the work as requested, provided the Rangitikei County Conncil grants a similar amount and xaiRape contributes £2OO, making a total of £SOO, which carries with it a subsidy of £ISOO from the Mam Highways Board. , , , , At a meeting of the local branch of the Wanganui Automobile Association the president stated that Mr S. Moir, engineer to the Rangitikei County Council, had informed him that, as soon as that body had been assured that Taihape’s quota was forthcoming, a,-start would be made with metalling. An ideal metal pit has been discovered about two miles north of Waiouru, and as a result a road can bo metalled at an approximate cost of 7s 6d per yard, instead of 17s per yard as would have been the cose if the council had to cart metal from Kakariki, near Marton. Consequently, the £2OOO in view will go much further than anticipated. It is expected that the Taihape quota will soon be forthcoming, and motorists are' jubilant at the prospect of the whole Waiouru Road, which provides the main outlet to the north, being metalled after many years’- agitation.
