FIRST SEA LORD’S TRIBUTE. LONDON. Aug. 24. The First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Charles Madden, called on the Australian High Commissioner, Sir Granville Ryrie, to discuss naval matters affecting Australia. This is the first occasion on which a High Commissioner has been so honoured. Admiral Madden paid a tribute to three young Australian naval lieutenants who had headed the examination lists at the Royal Naval College at Greenwich. Herbert Buchanan (Melbourne) led in preliminary theoretical gunnery, Emile de Cbaineux (Melbourne) in torpedo work, and lan Macdonald (Sydney) in signalling.
