S.P.C.A.
The usual fortnightly meeeting of the executive of the Palmerston North branch of the S.P.C.A., was held last evening, Mr M. H. Oram presiding. Correspondence was received from Mr Forbes, organiser for “animal welfare week,” stating that this would be. observed from 24th to 30th October. A sub-committee consisting of Mrs Norgan, Miss Abraham, Mr Espiner and Rev. Stewart were appointed to make arrangements and report to next meeting. The inspector submitted his report, which stated inter alia that he had destroyed a cow and several small animals at the request of the owners. He also had destroyed a horse which was too old to work and which the inspector forbade to be further used. It was resolved to warn the owner that any similar offence would lead to a prosecution. _ _ ‘ , Attention was directed to the letter of a correspondent in the “Standard,” signing himself “Animal Lover,” in which he sought information as to the methods adopted by this society in destroying animals. It was decided to invite “Animal Lover” to communicate with Inspector Floyd, telephone 6817, when he would be pleased to discuss the question with the correspondent, and inform him of the methods adopted. The following subscriptions and donations were acknowledged with thanks: Mrs C. E. Dempsy 6s; Mr A. Scadden ss.
