“MIKADO” UP-TO-DATE.
VERSION AT BERLIN. CHARLESTON INTRODUCED. BERLIN, Sept. 1. Gilbert and Sullivan’s musical play “The Mikado,” brought up to date, was presented in the form of a revue at the Grosses Schauspielhaus. Nanki Poo, wearing Oxford bags and a sky blue double-breasted, brass-but-toned blazer, represented the son of an American sugar king who desires that Nanki Poo shall many Katisha, the daughter of a fruit king, so as to enable a marmalade trust to be formed. The performance was interspersed with dancing and gymnastics. Yum Yum and her companions made an ample display of Western silk garments-beneath kimonos. The music was often jazzed, and the ballets introduce the Charleston. Only the most pious Savoyard would object to the changes.'
