CYCLING.
FIFTY-THREE MILE RACE. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Sept. 3. Sixty-six riders left here to-day. on a 53 mile road race for the New Zealand championship, which ends on the showgrounds at Christchurch. The roads are fairly good in most parts, but are bad between Rakaia and Dunsandel. The Selwyn River is not able to be forded, but planks have been laid over Newbridge Ford for the competitors. The weather is fine and warm, with a light head breeze.
