MAGISTRATE’S COURT. TO-DAY’S SITTING. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, Sept. 1. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., occupied the bench at to-day’s sitting of the Feilding Magistrate’s Court. For being found on licensed premises after hours, Thomas Fowell was convicted and fined £2, with £1 Is costs. On the information of W. Berry, traffic inspector to the Manawatu, County Council, Patrick Campbell was fined 10s, with a similar amount in costs, for allowing cattle to wander unattended on a public road. William Herbert Menere was charged by J. Lowden, Inspector of Factories, that, being the occupier of a shop within the meaning of the Shops and Offices Act, he failed to close such shop as required on the statutory half holiday. A fine of £3 with 10s costs was entered. CIVIL LIST.

Judgment by default was granted plaintiff in’ the following undefended civil cases: —Chappell Bros. (Mr Pagan) v.' J. O’Regan, £2 17s 6d, costs £1 7s 6d; J. Carian (Mr Elliott) v. W. Evans, £3, costs £1 3s 6d; Geo. Wells. (Mr Cullinane) v. P. Riwai Teruakirikiri, £23 16s 2d, costs £4 12s 6d; J. W. Ireland v. R. Henderson, £6. costs 15s; P. Campbell (Mr Hill) v. J. Lammas, jnr., £2, costs £1 7s 6d; W. N. Jones (Mr Mason) v. A. Banks, £6 3s 6d, costs £1 10s 6d.

On a judgment summons Harold Groucott was ordered to pay E. C. Way £5 14s 6d within 28 days, in default four days’ imprisonment. MAINTENANCE CASES.

For disobedience of a maintenance order in respect of his wife and three children, John William Lewis was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence at any time within twelve months on condition that £ls be paid forthwith off the arreas of £25, due up to. the date of the issue of the summons in June, on the order and that the order as varied be complied with. Costs amounting to £2 26 were entered.

A request for a variation of the maintenance order made in respect of hip wife and three children was lodged by John William Lewis. Mr Taylor appeared for complainant and Mr Graham for defendant. Mr Graham stated that since the original order was made one of the children had died, but this had not made complainant seem any more willing to meet his obligations and over £SO arrears were owing on the order to date. His client, counsel said, was in an extremely destitute condition. Mr Taylor stated that Lewis had been out of work and had found it impossible to pay under the present order., The orders 'were varied to 10s per week for his wife and 5s per week for each of the surviving two children. BUILDING PERMITS. Five builcl.ing per mi % of a total value of £173 were issued by. the borough inspector (Mr C. Pearson) during August. Seven permits of a value of £872 were issued in July. NOTIFIABLE DISEASES. Since March last no cases of notifiable infectious diseases have been reported to the borough health inspector. OROUA LICENSING COMMITTEE. QUARTERLY MEETING. ,Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over the quartely meeting of the Oroua Licensing Committee at noon to-day. Also present were Messrs T. Watson, J. W. Bramewell, H. Booth and E. Goodbehere. The application of John' Sim for a permanent transfer to Stephen Gornez, in respect of the Cheltenham Hotel license, was granted. , No complaints were lodged by the nolice and the meeting then adjourned.
