BRITISH PEOPLES.

GREATEST HOPE FOR WORLD

PEACE.

STATEMENT BY MR BALDWIN,

OTTAWA, Aug. 14. At Winnipeg, addressing huge crowds from a window of Parliament Buildings before entraining for the east, Mr Baldwin denied that signs of decadence were appearing in Britain. “What we feel at home, and what I think must be more difficult for you to realise than it is for us, is that on us mainly—on people speaking the English tongue, people of British stock —rests the greatest hope for world peace and continued _ peace,” added Mr Baldwin. “Peace is a vital necessity for the world, and for no part of the world more vital than for the Empire. All we want to do is to develop ourselves and our countries in peace. That will be our great contribution to the world.” —A. and N.Z. cable.
