ALLEGED THEFT.

FORMER SOLICITOR IN TROUBLE

Per Press Association

AUCKLAND. Aug. 16. A former Auckland solicitor, James Lockwood Brady, was charged at the Police Court with being idle and disorderly and having insufficient lawful means of support; also with stealing four books valued at £3, the property of the Auckland City Council, and an overcoat, the property of E. V. Buckingham. Regarding the latter charge, evidence was given that the coat was left in the office where accused worked and that he was returning it when he was arrested.

Accused said that he bought three of the library books in a bundle at an auction sale and borrowed the other book while a subscriber to the library but lost trace of it and forfeited his deposit. Albert Ramm said that accused was in his employ and earned approximately £75 in commission during the past six months.

Mr Cutten, S.M., reserved his judgment.
