REDUCED FARES.

OVER EXTENDED RADIUS. FOR LOCAL SPRING SHOW. Advice that tho Railway Board had acceded to the association’s request that excursion tickets would be issuable from all stations in the North Island up to Frankton, as well as from Thames, Rotorua and Cambridge and also from the South Island, for the ensuing spring show at Palmerston North was received at to-day’s meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association from Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.

“We have been years trying to get this concession,” stated Mr J. M. Johnston, in moving that a letter of thanks be sent to the Railway Board. The meeting decided to act on Mr Johnston’s suggestion.

Regarding next year’s Winter Show the district traffic manager. Railway Department, advised that, with a view to encouraging organised parties of country school chilrden, attended by teachers and members of the committee, to visit Palmerston North, special facilities in regard to cheap fares by ordinary trains would be offered. It was proposed, he added, to make available to such parties the day school excursion fares usually only applicable on the date of a school’s annual picnic. It was suggested that any parties organised on the lines mentioned be admitted free of charge, a practice that was followed by the Wellington Winter Show authorities.

The meeting decided to admit the children and teachers free, but not members of committees.
