DEMAND FOR WOOL.

GERMANY TO FORE.

RECAPTURING TRADE.

LONDON, Aug. 6. * That Germany, with a knowledge of her exact requirements, is determined to recapture her important position in the wool and textile trade, and that the British trade is slipping back, is the opinion of the Bradford correspondent of the Financial Times.

“Germany appears determined to secure her pre-war importance as a centre for the production of wool and textile goods, with world-wide distribution,” he says. He points out that already she is in a far better position than her rivals, having obtained orders enabling the continuous use of her whole machinery, which was hitherto restricted when her financial resources checked her progress. Now Germany is aided by cheaper labour, and is apparently sufficiently recovered to make possible the purchase of all the necessary raw and par-tially-manufactured materials. Germany’s favourable position in the wool trade is causing anxiety in view of the new Commonwealth clip sales, at which, Germany, knowing her wants in advance, has a great advantage over British manufacturers, who are compelled to speculate on the British requirements.
