SUICIDE AT AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, Aug. 15. A contractor named William Charles Padgliam, a single man, aged 60, committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence at Glen Eden. The body was found in the orchard with a gun alongside. The coroner found a verdict of suicide while in a depressed state of mind owing to the death of hfs brother in England. Deceased was not in any financial difficulty. CASE AT PETONE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 15. At the inquest to-day concerning tho death of Arthur Longbottom, grocer, aged 54, of Petone, evidence was given that deceased had been in ill health for some time and had been depressed. On August 2 he was found in a bathroom with his throat cut and was removed to the hospital where he made good progress until bronchial pneumonia supervened. A verdict was returned that deceased died from bronchial pneumonia following wounds in the throat self-inflicted while mentally depressed.
