FRANKTON JUNCTION.

CHANGE OF NAME OPPOSED

WORSE CONFUSION FEARED

HAMILTON. Aug. 11

The proposal made by tho Frankton Ratepayers and Citizens’ Association to the Minister of Railways, that the name of the present Frankton Junction station be changed to Hamilton,, and that the station now known as Hamilton he renamed Hamilton Central, isnot supported by the Railway Department.

The Minister, Mr Coates, has replied that it is considered the proposed change would result in considerable confusion. He recalled that when Hamilton and Claudolands stations were called Hamilton West and Hamilton East respectively, an alteration had to be made owing to the similarity of names. Admittedly some confusion existed under the present nomenclature, but the department did not consider the change suggested would remedy matters.

The Minister gave his assurance that any alternative proposals which the association desired to put forward would receive careful consideration.
