Mr J. Cunninghame, of Palmerston North, was at last night’s meeting of the New Zealand Leghorn Club elected a life . riember in recognition of his past services to that body. Mr R. E. Hayes, Secretary to the Treasury, who has just completed an official visit to England, will leave Sydney for Wellington by the Makura tomorrow.

A Melbourne cablegram- repoi'ts the death of Mr M. K. McKenzie, a former member of the Legislative Assembly and formerly Minister of Lands.

A vote of sympathy with Dr. E. Boxer, C.M.G., Hawera, in his recent severe illness was passed at the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association yesterday, and hopes were expressed for his speedy recovery. Dr. Boxer was at one time- president of the N.Z.R.S.A., and has always taken the keenest interest in the association.

Owing to departmental work requiring his attention in Wellington, Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Agriculture, who had previously intended to be present at the Manawatu A. and P. Association smoke concert this evening, had advised Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., of his inability to attend. He has extended best wishes for the success of the function.

The Right Rev. L. S. Kempthorne. Anglican Bishop in Polynesia, arrived at Auckland on Tuesday from Suva by the Tofua,. and immediately transhipped to H.M.S. Diomede, which left shortly afterwards for the South Sea Islands. The bishop is paying his annual visit to the outlying portions of his diocese in the Eastern Pacific, and expects to pass through Auckland on his return to Fiji in August. Mr D. Hull, of -New Plymouth, a past Dominion President of the Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, but who is now a member of the dairy instructional staff, was at last night’s meeting of the Factory Managers’ Association presented with a handsome silver tea service and an oak tray in recognition of his services to this body. In making the presentation, Mr J. Middleton, of Canterbury, remarked that Mr Hull had proved a very live man during his term of office and his efforts had proved of distinct benefit to the industry. * Reference to the death of Mr A. Parke, of Oamaru, a prominent Ayrshire breeder, was made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Ayrshire Cattle Breeders’ Association yesterday by the chairman, Mr F. Klills, of Hawera. Mr Mills referred to the late Mr Parke as probably one of the oldest members of the association, and one of its mainstays, and one who had come to be recognised in New Zealand as an able importer of tho Ayrshire breed. Members stood in silence out of respect to the deceased gentleman and in sympathy with his relatives.
