TEACHING AGRICULTURE.
IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATIONS. WELLINGTON. June 16. Important recommendations concerning instruction in agricultural education in primary schools were arrived at at tire recent conference of the Council of Education. Convinced of the value of instruction i in elementary agriculture in these i •schools, the council recommends: I “That inspectors be instructed to take I a greater interest in the teaching of this subject; that re f rosin v courses for teachers be organised; that agricultural clubs should be encouraged; that co-operation be sought with rhc Department of Forestry and Agriculture; that in order to secure maximum efficiency an adequate 6taff of supervisors is indispensable; that agricultural bursars on the. completion of tlreir course be associated with agricultural instructors in order to gain knowledge of the actual needs of the schools; and that in order to secure proper co-operation between the inspectorial, staff and the instructor, the I latter should be placed under the con- i trol of the Education Department.” i
