UNSIGHTLY AREA.

COMMENT BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The unsightliness of the area at the back of the Courthouse and adjacent to the Police Station in Church Street formed the subject of some discussion at the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. “The area,” stated the president, Mr M. A. Eliott, in introducing the matter, “certainly does not add to the beauty or the neatness of the town. The Justice Department is making no ■use of the section, although I understand that it is their intention to build on the site, but nothing has been done yet. I think that we should make representations that the area be put in better order, say, by the planting of shrubs.” The secretary (Mr W. McKenzie) commented that the Public Works Department had the matter of improvements in hand. The chamber decided to take action as suggested by the president and to suggest that a new police station could fittingly be built on the site.
