CONSTABLE ASSAULTED.
FINE OF THREE POUNDS. Per Press Association. / AUCKLAND, May 3. At the Police Court, James Peter Carter, denied having assaulted Constable Wakelin while in the execution of his duty. Constable Wakelin said that- the accused was pushing his way off a crowded tram car when he (witness) remonstrated. Carter made a more determined push and when he was again warned struck witness on the face. It was admitted that Carter was deaf and that afterwards he apologised. Mr Hunt, S.M., said that if the Constable had been in uniform he would have sent accused to gaol for a fortnight. He would be fined £3 or 14 days’ imprisonment.
