LAW CLERKS.
MEETING OP ASSOCIATION. Mr M. Nicol presided over a fair attendance of members at the meeting of the Law Clerks’ Association held last evening. Owing to pressure of private business Mr J. Slrarman tendered his resignation as secretary and as a member of the association. His resignation was accepted and the committee was authorised to appoint a new secretary in his stead. The subject for the evening’s debate was: “That the limitation of armaments is desirable for the world’s peace.’’ For the affirmative were Messrs C. H. Goldfinch and C. Robertson, while the negative side of the question was maintained by Mr J. Turnbull, seconded by Mr F. G. Opie. The chairman was appointed judge of the speakers. A popular vote taken at the conclusion of a keenly contested debate gave the decision to the negative by three votes. The chairman also declared the negative to be the better side by five points, he awarding a total of 171 points to the affirmative and 176 to the negative. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chairman for his criticisms and awards.
