By defeating his brother, A. L. France, at Wellington, on Saturday in the final, o—6, 6—2, 3—6, 6—3, 6—2, D. G. France became the first title holder bf the North Island tennis championship. The match, which took two hours to play, was contested on the association court at Miramar. Despite the fact that the day was cold with a stiff wind blowing diagonally across f*e court, the standard of the tennis was very high and could hardly have been bettered had the:: weather conditions been more favourable.
