BLACKMAILING CHARGES
CAPTAIN AND HIS MONEY.
Received April 7, 1.45 p.m. LONDON, April 6. One of the most amazing cases in the history of blackmailing was revealed at Bo v Street when four men were charged with obtaining £10,859 from a retired army captain whose name was not disclosed.
After the theatre the captain was inveigled into a bedroom in London where two men immediately secured £SO under threat of calling in the police. Thence forward others of the gang secured £95 for a passage to Algior and £l2O on the plea of his wife being ill, and then £2OO for his wife's funeral expenses. The demands continued throughout 1925, including £IOO passage money for two men to Australia. Finally a so-called detective named Lynoh appeared and pliilanthropically promised to deal, with the blackmailers, but quickly demanded £llOO and then £2OOO until the cheques aggregated £IO,OOO.
