SPORTS AT TAIHAPE.
Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, March 16. The fifth annual carnival of the Taihape St. Patrick’s Day Axemen’s and Athletic Club opened to-day under favourable circumstances' with' a representation of athletes and axemen from all parts of th e Dominion. To-day was largely taken up with running heats for the LCD .Sheffield Handicap and minor athletic events, £IOO 14in standing chop, and £SO 12in standing chop, the finals for which will be held tomorrow, and include axemen from all over the Dominion. Events finalised to-day were:— Half-mile Handicap.—lt. Young 1, F. W. Large 2, L. Carrington 3. A protest was lodged against the winner. One Mile Cycle Race.—J. Rehia 1, A. C. Sutton 2, C.
