SOLICITORS IN TROUBLE

The Court of Appeal dealt with the eases of the Law Society v. Wilfred, Alec Black and John Munro Gillies.

Mr Von Haast appeared for the LawSociety and Mr Perry for Black. Gillies was not represented. . The case of Black was adjourned until March 23 pending the arrival of affidavits from Auckland.

The facts alleged in .Gillies’s case were that he failed to keep his trust account in order and received altogether the sum of over £SOO for his own use, being trust moneys. In one instance Gillies took over work for one Benn. From Irwin and Irwin he collected £176 8s lid which Benn instructed him. to return to Irwin and Irwin. This was not done though Gillies stated that he had done so. Gillies was struck off the roll of the Law Society and ordered to pay £ls 15s costs.
