BOWLING.

• i DIXON OUP. (By “Trundler.”), After having held the Dixon Oup and Tucker Badges for three , months the Palmerston North, Club team lost possession of the trophies on Saturday, being defeated by a Feilding rink skipped by Herdman, who has had several successes in more recent years as a skip of his club. The game was keen all through, and at the ninth head the scores were even—nine all. Feilding then, forged ahead, but the local side made up a good deal of the leeway, though they required five points to win on the last head. Several times during the latter ■ stages of the game victory seemed within their grasp, but each time Feilding managed to- get in a saving bowlj once or twice with the luck slightly, in their favour, and the match ended in their success by three points. Feilding lost the cup early in the season to Shannon, from whom the Palmerston • North Club rink won it and successfully withstood nine challenges, an excellent record. MANSON AND BARR CUP. The Palmerston North Club team which played Pahiatua for the Manson and Barr Cup on Saturday afternoon was defeated by the narrow margin of t\yp points, after being one down when th<r last head was reached. It was a very low scoring game, only 28 points being scored in 2\ heads. On 16 heads singles only were notched-, each side gaining a three, while Pahiatua got one two and 'the challengers two. The holders, 4 however, scored ten of the singles and the opposing rink six. With a littlo more luck the Palmerston North team might have won, as two shots on the last head to trail the kitty for the ■ requisite number of points failed by the narrowest margin. The Pahiatua rink is well balanced and is ably skipped by W. Britland. Winning the epp from Feilding a fortnight ago the team beat Manawatu the following Saturday somewhat easily ■ and thus nas had three good victories. PLEASANT FUNCTION.

During th6ir visit to Pahiatua the local players participated in a most enjoyable function. It was the birthday of two old and esteemed members of the home club, Messrs E. ("Uncle”) Harrison and A. Barrell, and at afternoon tea time the players foregathered and drank their health. Reference was made by Messrs T. Hewitt and W. Britland and other speakers to the lengthy association with the club',of both gentlemen, and the hope was expressed that both would continue playing their pastime for years to come. Messrs Harrison and Barrell acknowledged the congratulations and good wishes extended to them and their pleasure at meeting so many friends. Although the health of Mr Harrison has not been very good of late, it has improved a good deal, and he hopes to regain it fully in the near future. Mr Barrell enjoys excellent health.

During the function reference was made to the unavoidable absence of thb club president, Mr H. McSherry, and his health was toasted. It was a very pleasant interlude, showing the high esteem in which all three gontlemen are held.
