MURDER IN CAIRO.
ESCAPE OF PERPETRATOR. FIRST SHOOTS A DETECTIVE. CAIRO, Feb. 16. A detective was attracted by a crowd outside Bercovitz’s jeweller’s shop, from the interior of which a revolver shot had been heard. He saw an Egyptian attempting to open the door of the shop from the inside. Being unable to do so the Egyptian splintered the plateglasa window with his foot, and then dashed through the hole. , s.. When the detective failed to stop the fugitive he fired a shot at him. The latter replied with another shot at the detective. Both men were seriously injured. , , ... A search of the shop revealed the dead body of the son of Bercovitz (who is a prominent Roumanian merchant). He had been murdered.
