BAINESSE.

ANNUAL SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Out Own Correspondent.) The annual school picnic was hold on Friday last, and being favoured with ideal weather everything passed off most successfully. Thanks are due to Mr 8. Pcarco for the use of Ids paddock and bush which again provided a suitable track and shado lor the refreshment tables. After an early lunch the sport events were run off and caused much amusement. An untiring committee of ladies dispensed refreshments ad lib and attended to the general wants of the children. Tho committee sincerely thank each and all who gave a helping hand, bringing to a close a most successful picnic without a hitch. A valuable collection of trophies were again available through the energies of Messrs F. Waller and S. Pearce. Theso were keenly competed for by tho adults, while all the children received money for prizes, and each unsuccessful competitor also received a prize. Though still slightly indisposed through bis recent accident, Air T. Grammcr carried out the duties of starter, with Air 11. Sandle (head teacher), and tho “field” were often needful of plenty of attention, handicapping often proving a difficult task. Those who kindly donated towards the prize list were as follow: Alisi* G. AlcKenzie, Mr 11. J. Waller, Air Baker (a former resident) Alessrs Manson and Barr, Collinson and Son, Watson Bros., Loan and Alercantile Co.,’ A. Hopwood, Alillar and Giorgi, Hodder and Tolley. At tho conclusion of tho sports the prize-giving was eagerly awaited. Air G. 11. Bennett and party journey out with Air D. W. Low, a member of tho Wlnganui Education Board, who presented tho prizes. Mr Low’s address to the children was eagerly listened to by them and should prove ji valuable lesson. The speaker hoped each boy and girl would enjoy reading their books, and lie was very happy to be thero to present them. He hoped also every boy and girl would do their best at school and through life. The prizes throughout lifo were thoso earned at school, und to win it meant working hard and doing their best. At the conclusion a roum of cheers were accorded Air Low for coin ing amongst them and his inspiring ad dress. The winners of attendance certificates were Donald Waller, Chas. Wilson Hilda Drury, Audrey Brooke-Taylor, Loi; Brookc-Tayior, Dorothy Tennent, Jack Pollard, David Tennent, Carie Wilson. Ashley Jefferies. Air Bennett’s specia. prize was awarded to tho dux of the school, Ken Chisholm. In the evening a successful danco took place at tho school. Miss AlcKenzio supplied the dance music and Air Grammar acted as AI.C. The. ladies supplied suppor as usual, bringing a very successful day to a close. Air and Mrs S.
