PLUNKET SHIELD MATCHES. WELLINGTON’S BIG LEAD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 3. The Plunket Shield match, Canterbury v. Wellington, was oontinued today. The weather was fine and tire sky overcast when play was resumed this morning. Nothing happened to impair the wicket, and it looked even faster than on Saturday. Canterbury had thus a full opportunity to show whether they were capable of getting within striking distance of Wellington’s big total of 488, but unaccountably collapsed, the whole side being disposed of for 107. Apart from Page and Patrick the batsmen shaped very poorly indeed. Though 381 runs ahead, Wellington decided to take no risks in view of tho fact that in the past Canterbury have frequently come to light in the second innings and pulled many games out of the fire against Wellington, both in Christchurch and in the capital city. The end of the day saw Wellington with 264 runs for eight wickets, being so Following were the scores : WELLINGTON. First innings 488 Second Innings.
