CONTESTS IN AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, Jan. 2. At tho Stadium, in the welter-weight championship, Billy Grime easily defeated Eddie Butcher, the holder, knocking him out in the fourth round with a heavy drive to the solar plexus. Grime scaled 9.04 and Butcher 10.54. Tho greatest admirers never expected the match to finish so quickly. Grime was small in comparison with the massive Butcher and, considering the weights, it did not appear to be a fair match. Butcher towered over his crouching opponent and drove several hard rights to the head. Grime’s evasiveness amused the crowd, who roared its applause. In the fourth round Butcher came in with a long left. Grime ducked and drove right to the solar plexus. Butcher fell on his face, rolled over in pain and was counted out. Tommy McGrath outpointed Al. Brown (9.8), securing a technical knockout in the seventh round.—Press Association. MELBOURNE, Jan. 3. Alf Stewart beat j Ernest Tyineko in the sixteenth. The referee stopped the match.—Press Association.
