NAVAL ACTIVITY.
IN ITALY AND FRANCE. MUSSOLINI’S DREAM. EVERY YARD OCCUPIED. LONDON, Dec. 30. Naval activity is noticeable in both Italy and France under the stimulus of Mussolini-ism. Since Signor Mussolini took over charge of the Ministry of Marine there has been high pressure in Italian naval shipyards. Signor Mussolini has decreed concentration upon light, fast ships, notably Washington cruisers and torpedo-boats, also a large fleet of submarines of a vastly improved type, f Another dream of the Duce is to see Italy’s mercantile flag supreme in the Mediterranean. Every yard is occupied to the fullest extent, including the construction of a.number of motor ships and huge liners. The French Government lias ordered the speding up of new cruiser-building in the l’Orient shipyard, in order to facilitate the earliest possible construction of a mine-layer, two destroyers, and two submarines, which are wjthin the Washington quota. —A. and N.Z. cable.
