KNIFE AND JEMMY.
UNDER PRISON FLOOR. HOBART GAOL BREAKING. HOBART, Dec. 17. Evidence at the inquiry into the recent escape of four convicts from Hobart gaol showed that by some means or the prisoner Dobson got possession of a steel pick-head, with which jfiie escapees forced padlocks. Downs had a mastei- key, with which box locks were opened. Tho key was apparently obtained from outside the gaol. The. deputy-governlor, Mr Pope, said he thought the pick-tread, which is 2ft. 6in. long, might l»ave been secreted beneath the mess-rdom floor.
