SECOND EDITION
‘'UNLUCKY TO LOSE.”
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received November 1, 1.0 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 01.
The'Daily News soys: “The Maoris were unlucky to lose in tlte match with.the Harlequins. They especially suffered from the referee’s faulty timekeeping. He extended the first half by four minutes beyond stoppages and the second half by three minutes. In the first half the extension enabled Hubbard to kick a penalty goal.” The Daily Mail says: “The Maoris were again curiously unequal. • They lacked combination and tackled too high. Apparently the old >viso word to take the man low lias not penetrated to Maoriland, resulting in tackling resembling wrestling.” The Times says: “The Maoris’ midfield play was mediocre and erratic except that of Kingi. The. Harlequins’ centres made even more glaring mistakes than their, opponents, but the wingers made the Maoris’ defence uncomfortable as Phillips aAd Falwasser made the Harlequins’ when they secure dthe ball in the open.”—Sydney Sun cable.
