A FARMER HONOUKED. AEROPLANE FATALITY. MELBOURNE, July . 15. Walter Ernest Johnson, of Ainslie, New South Wales, who has been awarded the bronze medal of the Royal Humane Society of Australia, showed great bravery in connection with the Canberra aeroplane fatality. Johnson is a farmer near Canberra, and was ploughing liis fields when the ’plane, carrying Flying-Officer Pitt and Aircraftsman Callender, who wero making an aerial survey, passed overhead. A few seconds later the ’plane crashed, and Johnson ran to the wreckage, which had burst into flames. Ho rushed through the flames and, cutting away tbe gun-ring mounting, carried Callender out of the fire to a safe spot 25 yards away. Ho then returned, but could not save Pitt, although he made a gallant effort. Aircraftsman Callender, however, was so badly burned that after remaining unconscious for some days he died.
