NEW RAILWAY ENGINES.
FOR SOUTH ISLAND. A new class of engine, as far as the South Island is concerned, will be seen on tho Dunedin-Oamaru section of the railways in the 1 course of a month (reports an exchange). The new engines, of which ten have been ordered, are of the W A B class, and are similar to the present A B engines as used on the expresses with the exception that they do nob draw a tender. They are tank engines and carry water in tanks along the side. Several of this type of engine are used on the Main Trunk line in the North Island. The reason for the introduction of the new engines is that they posses a greater tractive force than the present A B’s and are particularly suitable for hilly country, such as prevails between Duendin and Oamaru.
