THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS.
SOME CHANGES DESIRED. SWIMMING INSTRUCTION URGED. A number of remits of interest to educationalists jin Palmerston North from school committees in the Auckland Province will come before the Auckland Primary Schools Committees’ Asoeiation at its annual meeting on Tuesday next. A remit from the Morrinsville School Committee asks that, if it is to the benefit of the pupib attending technical schools to receive tuition in bookkeeping, shorthand and typewriting, the same facilities should bo extended to centres where there is a district high school but no technical school. The Newton School Committee asks that the association protest to the Board of Education against temporary masters being appointed without committes being first consulted. The committee requests further that each school be equipped with an adequate supply of first-aid appliances and material to cope with any accidents happening at the school, this to be supplied by the board or the department. Other remits from the same committee ask that the board or department have a telephone installed in each primary school; that education be made absolutely free; and that the compulsory learning of swimming be added to the school curriculum.
The Stanley Bay School Committee suggests that the department be asked to supply paper, towels, and liquid or powder, soap, and containers for use in the primary schools. The Maungawhau School Committee protests strongly against any alteration of' rules whereby city and suburban children are deprived. of the right to competo for scholarships.
