CAR SALESMAN.
ALLEGED FORGERY
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. June 24. “He is known as a phychopathic liar, and if he is not checked he will develop into a first-class fraud and social pest.” Such was the description by Mr Poynton, S.M., of Claude ■ Capron, a smartly dressed young Englishman who was committed for trial in the Police Court on a charge of forging a cheque for £345, also with converting a motor car, worth £375, to his own use. The latter charge was adjourned sine die. The evidence showed that accused had been employed by the Dexters Motors Company as car salesman, on a commission basis. Accused told his employers that he had several prospective clients, and took a cheque to the former, stating that a Hawke’s Bay squatter had purchased a car for that sum. When accused did not return with another car_ the matter was reported to the police. In a statement to the arresting detective, accused said that he told that story solely to show his employers that ho was’ a good car salesman. While he was on his way to a cabaret in the car with a young lady, he was stopped by a member of the firm, who drove the car back to the garage.
